Fixture released for exciting 2024 SFL Season

The 2024 Banjos Bakery Southern Football League [SFL] fixture has been released ahead of what’s shaping as a bumper season of community footy.

A major highlight of the upcoming season is the return of Hobart Football Club to the SFL’s senior division, adding an extra layer of competition to an already competitive field.

SFL fans won’t have to wait long for a Grand Final rematch, with reigning Premier Cygnet hosting cross-town rival Huonville Lions in Round 3, in what promises to be a fierce contest following their last clash, remembered as one of the greatest Grand Finals in SFL history.

Themed rounds throughout the season include Indigenous Round in Rd 9, Pride Round three weeks later in Rd 12, and Mental Health Round in Rd 17.

All highly important occasions on the calendar, the themed rounds will provide an opportunity for clubs to come together and support worthy causes.

Representative football also makes a return in 2024, with the SFL representative side to take on an NWFL rep team on King’s Birthday weekend.

A July 20 competition Bye will coincide with a State Rep game, when Tasmania plays host to a side made up of AFL Sydney/Canberra players in Launceston.

The 2024 SFL season will culminate with the Grand Final on September 14 at North Hobart Oval.

Quotes attributable to SFL President Daivd O’Byrne:

“Off the back of one of the greatest grand finals in SFL history last year, the 2024 SFL competition is even more exciting, with Hobart back up-to-strength, and club and regional rivalries raring to resume. It’s looking to be one helluva season.

“With themed feature rounds, an ANZAC Day blockbuster and big rivalry clashes throughout the year, it will be a football feast that we’re very excited about.

“Bragging rights will be on the line in the final year of the current SFL format, and we’re looking forward to seeing all the fans get back to their clubs to cheer their teams on.”
