In what is a historic moment for football in southern Tasmania, this week the SFL Executive and existing SFL Presidents held a meeting to officially accept five former TSL clubs to the league, as Kingborough, Clarence, Glenorchy, Lauderdale and North Hobart join Brighton to enter the SFL Premier League from 2025.
SFL President David O’Byrne said “We acknowledged we’ve all got a responsibility to rebuild the ecosystem of football in the south and create great places for families to be and great football to be played and pass on to the next generation of football administrators a game that is in much better shape than the one we have inherited, so it’s quite exciting”.
While Brighton moves to the SFL Premier League, the existing clubs will form the SFL Community League, which consists of reigning SFL senior men’s premier Cygnet, along with Lindisfarne, Huonville Lions, Sorell, New Norfolk, Dodges Ferry, Hobart and Claremont.
